Photographer's Note

This is the last photo I took in Erbil before I caught a taxi to the airport to fly, overnight, back to Turkey and then on to London.

I had imagined that moment before I arrived in Kurdistan. I thought I would feel like a protagonist of a Vietnam war movie, being transported away from burning jungle by a US Army chopper.

Not so. I felt great sadness that I'd spent so little time in that part of the world. And kind of panic that I may never return. In all honesty, I probably won't and if I do it will be many years later. I imagine it will be a completely different place then - one way or the other.

In WS a couple of shots from my favourite place in Erbil - the bazaar.
