Photographer's Note

Kuyumcular Sokak, North Nicosia (Lefkoşa), Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Despite the apparently somewhat aggressive stance of the man, and the restraining arm of the woman, I don't think this conversation was confrontational or argumentative. Of course I couldn't understand what they were talking about, but it actually seemed friendly enough.

Only Turkey recognises the state of Northern Cyprus, or Kuzey Kıbrıs in Turkish, while it is considered by the international community to be part of the Republic of Cyprus. Maybe de jure it is, but of course de facto it isn't, and hasn't been since 1974. I rather like the background though: Northern Cyprus may not be recognised internationally, but that doesn't stop Coca Cola's tentacles embracing it.
