Photographer's Note
The first shot from a long weekend break in the Highlands of Scotland. As is to be expected in a Scottish winter the weather was mostly wet and wild, but cloud did break on the first evening leaving some lovely colours. Luckily I was in the right location to make the most of the nice colours - the splendid Rannoch Moor. Many people complain about the appearance of this tree in so many photographs from this area. But I make no apology for photographing it again here - the tree, and location are spectacular and deserve to be photographed time and again.

Hi Adam,
this is a beautiful, colourful image with the long exposure giving a silk like appearance to the water. The rock in the foreground is well placed to give depth and the lone tree is perfectly placed in front of the pink cloud. A superb image and hopefully will be recognised as such.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for sharing this photo I find very Zen and cool.
I like the point of view with the stones opening and taking the eye to the bottom through the diagonal. The light was very smooth.

Adam,
This is a great photo with excellent color and lighting. The long exposure allows for good saturation and the exposure has given you outstanding DOF and sharpness. Your composition is great showing the stones in the foreground and the wonderful sky in the BG.

Hi Adam!
A masterpiece. Classic composition with the rule of thirds carefully preserved. I like the mystery of the untransparent water, the pink and blue tones are nices.
Well done!

Hi Adam
Beautiful shot. I really like how the clouds caught in the light have such a smooth look (due to the long exposure I presume). The rocks in the water make for both an interesting foreground as well as a nice guideline into the horizon. Also, you´ve got some magnificent colors in this photograph. Great work :)

Great lines that the wind drew into the water. It's certainly a well known subject, but I think the colours, the dry rocks against the blue windswept water make for a quite unique and original image.

Adam: superlative waterscape. I open these images to check on f/stops, setup, and camera model. Good to see the 5D can hold up against the Nikons in sharpness. Superb work, out of my genre... regards, c

Very good. There's plenty of detail in the foreground, such as those rocks, and I see no reason to apologise for having that tree in the shot either! The evening colours are very good too.

OMG - this is phenomenal, Adam!
What a masterpiece!
I didn't know about the tree (complaints), and can't even imagine why anyone on Earth would complain about it - especialy in THIS composition.
Can't find a flaw here - actually, it left me speachless (which doesn't happen often)!
The greatest thing here is the contrast without losing any detail in shadows, and the quality not disturbed by compression under 200KB.
Thank you for sharing this beauty!

Hello, Adam--
Great work here, you certainly did do well with the color. The rocks are nice, leading to the back right and providing balance for the landmass of the island, but what really catches my attention about this picture is the way you used the tree--rather than trying to anchor your entire composition with the colors of the sunset or with the solitude of the tree, you found a way to tie them together in a meaningful way, silhouetting the tree against the most intense pink of the sunset, tying the colors of the sky to the earth.
Thanks!

Rannoch moor must be one of the most photographed locations in Scotland but a good photographer can put their slant on the scene as you have done here, and make it their own. The gentle colours and smoothness of the water surface both enhanced by the long shutter speed are very easy on the eye which is encouraged to follow the line of foreground rocks in a curve towards the middle distance and background. All the techs are excellent.

Hello Adam,
The lighting is amazing in this shot and the view is superb. The foreground rocks bring a nice balance to the photo. I love the silky look of the water and the reflection of the colours of the clouds. The lonely tree in the distance is a great addition as well. Great compostion that you captured so beautiful!

Once again a wonderfull Adam Bruton photo with his beloved theme: water, rocks and evening/morning sky.
The soft pink and blue are really beautiful. the rocks in the front add to the compostion.
Keep going on with your posts!

Hello Adam, I am very pleased by your recent activity here on TE. This photo has definitely made me want to go to Scotland at this very minute. I cannot wait to see more of your photos from your trip!! The stillness and piece of this shot together with those fantastic colors is just stunning. You've definitely made me go shooting this weekend. I have to make most of being still here in UK before I move again. Lucie

Hi Adam,
.. the trail of stones .. just wondrous .. the sky .. beautiful .. the exposure on the water is magic and your tree .. well it is the second time in a week I have pulled this quote in critique .. well the other time was last month so that is better ..
It does not matter if this word has been said a thousand times before as long as it is the right thing to say at that moment - Ralph Vaughan Williams
thanks for sharing it.
