Photographer's Note

Fire, Ice and Stone:
The Snowdonia National Park, North Wales,
Snowdon Sunset, from Capel Curig.

Upload 4 to my latest Travelogue.

This image was taken a few minutes after this one: Ice Sunset. It was getting dark rapidly, so I used fill-in flash to bring out some detail in the foreground. Quite a different atmosphere from my first upload - the colours give a warm, intimate and cosy feel. But if you look harder you can see this is an illusion because there is ice on the Llyn (lake), and the temperature is below zero.

The hard, cold grey boulders seem to contrast well with the soft tones of the sunset. It all feels a bit primaeval to me!

The mountains in the distance (with cloud cover) are the Snowdon range. Photo taken from Llynnau Mymbyr, Capel Curig (grid reference: SH708 575).

The irritating shadow on the middle foreground boulder is from my left boot - which I used to stop me sliding into the chilly waters - so please don't critique about that :-)

No lens filters used.
PP, minor crop, increased saturation, USM.
