Photographer's Note

The story told to us at the local lifeboat station is that the wreck is of a German river boat and that the ship was not licenced to work on the open sea. It had nonetheless managed to get to Ireland to pick up its cargo and was on the return journey when it lost power and hit the rocks with the result shown.
The Polish crew were all rescued and most were discovered to be blind drunk! Whether this was the cause of the shipwreck or a result of it is unclear, but the boat should have been 12 miles out to sea when passing this area which is between Mullion Cove and Land’s End.
Although the sea was fairly calm when this shot was taken, closer inspection of the wreckage shows just how much power the sea can exert.
