Photographer's Note
I decided to go to London in just a few days and I was not prepared. I just walked around, often without a defined goal. It could happen that I missed something interesting. It was almost the case with the Tulip Stairs. You can imagine how I was surprised that in the Queen's House in Greenwich, I saw inside the spiral stairs, and the very famous ones! Quite accidentally. And I am fascinated by all spiral stairs.
The Queen’s House at Greenwich dates back to the early seventeenth century when it was designed by Inigo Jones. Notably, it was the first building in England to have been consciously and specifically built in the classical style. Built for Anne of Denmark, the wife of James VI/I, it is now part of the Royal Maritime Museum. However, one architectural feature stands out to me the most- the Tulip Stairs!
According to the museum, the Tulip Stairs “are the first centrally unsupported stairs in England, copying a Venetian model. The stone treads lock perfectly into each other and the wall, requiring no central structure and creating the famous upwards view. The striking wrought-iron rail has been restored to its original smalt blue. It has long been described as showing tulips but they are probably lilies, the royal flower of France, in compliment to Henrietta Maria”. (Henrietta Maria was Queen Consort for Charles I.)
The stairs truly are gorgeous- the blue wrought-iron work is so striking against the white walls, and the flowers are gorgeous without being dizzying! Also, apparently this staircase is haunted. Sadly, no ghost sighting for me. (After https://anhistorianabouttown.com/tulip-stairs-queens-house-greenwich/)
You can read about the ghosts on the stairs here:

Hello Malgo,
Three well taken photos of the elegant spiral staircase. Photos like these sometimes make me confused as to whether I am looking down or up, but the person in the main photo helps me. The blue wrought iron railing is the most beautiful detail and the person walking down is wearing suitably matching clothes.
I am not sure I can actually see the ghost in the unsharp photo shown in the link.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo, three lovely shots of this beautiful staircase; I was totally unaware of it, and well worth a visit the next time we go to London.
The blue iron railings seem to emphasise the spiral shape.
Very interesting and informative notes, thank you.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Malgo
What a lovely and unusual image. It almost has the appearance of an ammonite. Shapes and colours are quite beautiful.

Hello Malgo,
Great shot! It's like looking inside a giant seashell. :-) The railings are beautiful, both the design and the color, and I like the view looking down in the WS, too.

Hi Malgo
I'm also a sucker for spiral stairs (there is a roughly similar one to these of the Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House in my London folder).
3 good views looking up and down of ones I didn't see on my visit to Greenwich.
cheers

Hello Malgo,
Wonderful stairs that remind me of the Riga Museum stairs in Latvia. I often do the same as you and just wander around looking without paying too much attention to the guide books must see top 10 list. Often the stuff they recommend doesn't interest me. Looks like a spiral seashell. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,
Wow, what a fantastic spiral staircase and the lighting here was amazing as well. Very well handled, too. It shows the white steps and the blue details in the middle so well. That lonely person makes a good addition also.

Hi Malgo,
Spiral pattern is just wonderful on this upwards shot. Light grey and dark blue go well together. And those railings are quite special. Downwards view is wonderful too with good attention to wrought iron patterns.
