Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
Please open in New Tab.
Glasgow is an interesting city for photography and though the weather was not truly in our favour, I was still eager to capture Bells Bridge as it lead across the river to the Armadillo Building.
Bell's Bridge was built in 1988 and was originally a temporary footbridge crossing, made to connect the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre with the Glasgow Garden Festival of the same year.
It is called Bell's Bridge in recognition of Bell's Whisky, which sponsored the project.
It comprises three spans, two partially supported by a white needle-shaped pylon. The bridge is able to rotate on its south pier, allowing larger vessels to pass and reach the upper Clyde.
The Armadillo Building (originally called the Clyde Auditorium) was designed by architects Foster and Partners, and it is a construction capable of seating 3,000 people - (hence the name '3k' Armadillo) It was started in September 1995, and was completed in August 1997, by which time it had earned its affectionate nickname, due to the similarity of its shape to that of the animal of the same name.
I will add a workshop capturing Bell's Bridge from the opposite side.
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
I might need a language interpreter if I ever go to Glasgow. The Glaswegian accent is VERY thick. I don't have a problem with Scots friends and acquaintances from Edinburgh. Very much easier to understand. Same with Irish and all of the UK accents from England. I guess because Aussies have been exposed to so many British tv sitcoms they no longer find a Yorkshire or Mancurian accent daunting. The Armadillo building looks like a compressed version of the Sydney Opera House. The diffused soft light was a nice compensation for the overcast weather. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
The main photo shows more people on the bridge. That's the main reason why I should rate that above the WS. Otherwise I value them quite equally. They are both well composed and have a fine light, in spite of the dull weather. Both photos give us good views of the bridge as well as the Armadillo building, just from different angles. This looks quite far from the rather rundown Glasgow that I have seen in a number of films.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley,
despite the weather, managed a fairly good two photos of the bridge and (the strange) Armadillo building. From the "air" on Google-map it doe's has the shape of an Armadillo, though I never saw one in live in a zoo nor in nature...
The auditorium located at 55.86, -4.2877 on the map, the surrounding area has many other modern building and one big crane of the Clydeport.
We were only few minutes in this city in our trip Oct.2016 - so did not see mauch around.
Interesting posts.
Good evening,
Ike

Dear Beverley,
This is an amazing photograph, with excellent composition leading my eyes towards the distance with the interesting building, which reminds me a bit to the Sydney Opera Hall.
Best Wishes,

Hello Beverley,
A great photo from Glasgow with that amazing building on the other side of the river. I have never posted any pictures of it, even though I took lots when I was there in 2008 or 2009. That bridge looked a bit different then, at least in my memory. You placed it very well in the left hand side of the shot.

Hi Bev,
The length of the bridge is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the bridge and of the buildings in the background. There is a good contrast between the colours of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
Wonderful architecture, the Armadillo Building and Bell's Bridge.
The photo in the WS has the advantage of a more attractive sky.
In your main photo, we cross the water to the Armadillo Building together with the many visitors on the bridge.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,in fact the architechture of auditorium reminds a lot an armadillo, there isn't the head but the body is the same! And your pics are amazing too,2 perspectives made in the same way from the opposite side of bridge to create a great catch-eye,impossible to make better! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Bonjour, chère Bev,
L'époque Victorienne est révolue ! place aux bâtiments contemporains aux formes étonnantes.
Tout change, tout évolue, c'est le temps qui passe !
Très bien.
Amitiés.

Hello Bev, I do not know why I have missed this Armadillo building when I was in Glasgow. Together with the bridge, it looks very interesting. The amazing shape of the Sir Norman Foster work. There is quite a crowd on the bridge.

Hi Bev,
I have to admit I have never been to Glasgow. It is still on my list and sadly this year it was almost impossible anyway since Scotland seems to have stricter restrictions for traveling around...
I think it is first time ever that I see this armadillo like structure, and it is next to the bridge! What a great subject for blue hour photography!
This is encouraging me to visit this place so much!
Excellent series of photos.
BTW: I answered briefly your comment that indeed the places which I visit without taking photos there are faster fading away in my memory indeed.

Hi Bev.
A fantastic composition with two very notorious elements, and that must be an emblem of modern architecture in the city, the very airy and light bridge is magnificent and points directly to the building called "Armadillo" because it really looks like the shape of this animal, definitely a great set in the city.
The management of color and light are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the image.
Very well done. I like
Have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Bev,
I really like this composition, with the bridge leading our eyes towards the Armadillo Building. It also reminds me of a large, concrete croissant! The WS view is also very nice.
