Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

I love history so it was a great treat to visit this ancient site.

This photograph shows part of the pre-historic stone circle at Avebury. It is a large, stone complex in the Marlborough Downs, the largest stone circle in the world. This circle features one of the most impressive henges in Britain as well as the remains of a stone avenue. It was originally erected about 4,500 years ago.

I was attracted to this huge stone as it appeared to have been sculptured, though I am sure it is just the effects of weathering, over the millennia.

I will add a second photograph as a workshop, which shows a wider view of the circle.

I do recommend that you look at 'Avebury Then' where you will find a really good reconstruction of what Avebury would have looked like when originally erected.

Thank you for stopping by.
I hope you enjoy seeing this ancient, Neolithic monument. Have a good day, Bev :-)
