Photographer's Note
Brixham breakwater is half a mile long and protects the outer harbour of Brixham. It is useful for sea angling too.
"One terrible storm in 1866 was so bad that even the beacon on the breakwater was swept away. Fifty vessels were wrecked and more than 100 lives were lost in the storm that night.
After the storm of 1866 the wreckage stretched for nearly 3 miles up the coast from Brixham.
As a result the citizens of Exeter donated money to help set up the Brixham Lifeboat.
This is now called the Torbay Lifeboat Station and is situated just across the breakwater where it is sheltered."
Unfortunately I have been unable to find out any more information about the beacon!
I imagine that it is probably worked remotely.
It was a very warm day but yet the sky was cloudy, not a lot of actual sunshine!
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
The light was weak but sufficient for a very sharp photo. The dark clouds provides a good background to the white (but rusty) beacon and the grey breakwater. The red thing (I'm not sure what it is) brightens the photo and the few persons admiring the view or trying to catch fish enliven the view.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Jean,
A very nice photo of the end of the breakwater and the white lighthouse with some rusty stains. It stands out nicely from the cloudy sky. The people add life to the photo as well.

Hello Jean. The weather was not favorable but The colours are nice and the red life buoy brightens the view. Lovely rusty beacon. What a tragic moment it witnessed, but now it is a pleasant place. Nice composition.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Jean
Central compo emphises its importance and strength even on a greyish day. The eye goes wandering along the pavement, the red buoy, the fig towards the horizon and then is pulled back inwards by the beacon! Overall a well composed image that I like.

Bonjour, cher Jean,
Belle proposition marine à travers cette composition. La note est édifiante.
Ce petit phare offre une assistance aux marins égarés !
J'aime la mise en image avec cet effet de perspective.
Amitiés.

Hello Jean,
What a terrible loss of life!
Thank goodness services like life boats and lighthouses have become standard!
The small beacon does make a great focal point and, because the sky is grey not blown out, it stands out well against the clouds. Those rusty details may not be appreciated by the locals but are great for the photographer!
For me, the red safety feature is too close to the edge of the frame and seems to unbalance the photograph. If you crop the scene from the right, to exclude both the figure and the safety feature, the beacon comes closer, the steps become important and the fisherman is still there to animate and scale.
Just try it and see what you think. I would show you as a w/s but my computer is not cooperating and will not copy the photograph into PS!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Jean,
A distinctive foto for a beacon. Unless the beacon has just been painted, rust can always be seen due to the rapid degradation under the influence of the salty seawater.
For a photographer, a cold day with sunny weather is better than a warm day without sunshine.
Well done
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi Jean,
I suppose working from home, so popular these days would be indeed very useful while operating this lighthouse on a windy day, especially with it bad history.
It is a nice lighthouse but I have a feeling that the more recent lighthouse the less elaborate design. I wonder why.
Getting a sunny weather these days will become more and more difficult :)
Very well done,
M

jean
curious this small lighthouse. nice note explaining the place too.the rusty parts of the structure remind me an english lighthouse made in UK in 19th century and working in an island of my state. anyway that light house is very big.
take care

Hi Jean.
A tragic story from the past should make people aware of the next possible storm. This breakwater wall with the lantern hopefully is set to withstand massive waves. A nice central perspective, the visitors and the angler greatly contribute to the frame. TFS!!!
