Photographer's Note
"From little acorns big oak trees grow."
"Druids in Celtic Britain held the oak tree sacred, and gathered mistletoe from its boughs for their secret rites.
Ever since those days, the English oak (Quercus robur) has been the 'king' of British trees.
Not for nothing did the botanists name it 'robur', 'sturdy', for until men devised iron cutting tools the oak resisted all attempts to fell it.
Its timber later became the foremost construction material, for it was strong and durable and could be grown into the curved shapes suitable for the cruck frames of houses and the frame supports of ships.
By the time of Elizabeth I, felling of oak trees had become so extensive that laws had to be passed to protect the tree.
Later the demands of the navy led to extensive planting of oaks in royal forests; many of the trees planted for this purpose survive today to give pleasure to the anyone visiting the countryside.
The acorns were once an animal foodstuff of prime importance, feeding the pigs that were turned loose in the forest in the autumn.
Even in winter the oak supports many forms of life. Insect larvae hibernate in its bark."

Jean, the oak is a very respected tree due to its size and its shape, it is associated with many legends. The acorns were used to feed the pigs. Excellent close up of the fruits. Nice nature photo. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Voilà une bien belle leçon de botanique. L'on prend plaisir à découvrir et à apprendre.
C'est la première fois, que je vois une telle chose.
Très bien.

Hello Jean, Also in Poland the oak is the king of the trees. The oldest oak in Poland, called Chrobry (like the first Polish king) is 760 years old. Charming picture of the acorns, big and small.

HellO Jean,
There were a number of oaks along the road near where I lived as a child. I often stopped there to admire the impressive trees, but it's been very long since I watched the leaves and acorns this closely. They have fantastic colours and shapes, truly art of nature. These photos are just as nice as any close-ups of butterflies.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Jean,
From little acorns big oak trees grow. But you do have to exercise some patience :)
Acorns are still a nutritional ingredient for squirrels, mice and wild boars.
Beautiful macro shot!
Best regards, Paul

Hello Jean,
By reading your notes I would say, This Tree's Got Many Usage - Mother of all Trees.
I could not imagine what will the world be like without trees.
Outstanding close-up shot of this , odd looking tiny buds to the smooth acorns as it ripens and falls to ground for the many creatures of the forest to feast on.
Not forgetting about the beautiful shape of leaves as it changes to golden colour on a lovely Autumn day.
Thanks for sharing this marvelous trees.

Hi Jean,
beautiful close up of the acorn in its natural surrounding.
It feels so very realistic with details of the leaves so natural. The acorn itself well placed in the frame off the centre.
In spite of having seemingly white sky in the back, which did not help, the resulting colors are so vivid, natural and the white light passing between branches at the back adds a nice touch as well.
I tried something like that few times but I usually fail with colors, may be white balance which I can never set properly at the weather like this.
Thank you for reading my notes, not everybody does, sometimes you can tell while reading people's comments that they didn't read it.
I sometimes skip notes as well because too many people just copy and paste from wikipedia.
Nice autumnal composition, encouraging to venture out this weekend in the search for photo subjects like this.
