Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

My photograph, today, shows the booking office for the Saltburn Lift. (Much better in the large format.)

The lift was opened on 28th June 1884 and is the oldest remaining waterbalance cliff lift in Britain. It has a height of 120 ft, and the length of the track is 207 ft. It is remarkable for having stained glass windows! It runs from the town's cliff top to Saltburn pier.

There haven been many photographs posted from the top of the cliff, showing the cars travelling down the steep incline (in fact I posted one many years ago) but there are few looking at it from this angle. It was for this reason that I chose this shot rather than those in my workshops.

The offices are brightly painted and you can see the rails of the water balanced lift behind the building.

I will add some different angles of the lift, which I think you might find interesting in my workshops.

Thanks for your interest, Bev :-)
