Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This will be my last posting from Helmsley for the near future.
Even more imposing when seen in the large format!
This photograph of the East Tower, without the use of the archway, (used in my last shot) may not seem so artistic but the details are easier to appreciate and the lighting was better.
Helmsley Castle was one of the most significant fortifications in the north – a true medieval powerhouse. It has at various times, also, served as royal hunting lodge and luxurious Tudor mansion, which explains the separate house within the walls (full of historical exhibits). You can just see the top of the mansion, in the distance.
I have no idea where my photographs of the Mansion House are but I know I took some!
I will add a couple of workshops which show different features at Helmsley.
For more information on the castle, please see my previous posts.
Have a great day, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley, a great point of view looking up to the ruins. The tower looks impressive against the sky, so that the shapes of the windows are clear to see.
Looking at ruins such as this, I find it fascinating seeing where walls had previously been, giving an idea of rooms etc.,
The extra shots are useful, although I am unsure about the sculpture, was that a permanent piece?
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
This looks like a monument, as much as the last standing wall of a tower. There are some quite attractive patterns among the rough stones. If you had wanted something as artistic as your last photo you could have chosen WS #2, which has a good atmosphere and a nice view through the window.
Thank you for your comments earlier today. So now you know about 'lagom', often referred to as the most typical and essential Swedish word. As for how we have coped with the pandemic it is still the subject of heated debates. We have a very high death rate, but lower than the UK and a few other countries, but statistics of different countries don't always tell the same things, and the crisis is not yet over, so we will have to wait for the end result. There is a fairly strong support for the decision to keep schools open for the younger children, which has helped to keep the economy reasonably afloat.
Kind regards,
Gert

The upwards view had imposed the sight of the tower's ruins, Beverley.
Not difficult to imagine how prominent look it had in older era.
The WS's are nicely added to the ancient Helmsley castle series.
Good afternoon,

Beverley, half of this ancient stonework collapsed and it looks a cross section view of a body or a skeleton. The tower located on a hill must be swept by the winds. The mansion interior is interesting and the sculpture draws attention. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Bev,
The point of view is showing the details of the east tower of the Hemsley castle. The colours and the sharpness are very good. Have a nice day.

Hi Bev,
the last about these ruins but another interesting presentation, strange high wall still standing ! A good angle to take the photo, photogenic with the view of the sky behind and through the windows, tfs.

Bonjour, chère Bev,
je suis toujours troublé en découvrant ces ruines qui ont à une époque marqué une certaine noblesse à tous égards;
L'on peut distinguer les subtilités architecturales à travers les strates de l'édifice.
L'ensemble se détache joliment sur un ciel mitigé.
Amitiés.

Hi Bev
A great point of view placing the ruins on the sky line for maximum effect and definitely even better in the large view. I do like the lines of old stair cases on the walls. Good workshop photos as well.
cheers

Dear Beverley,
Even without the natural framing this photograph looks quite excellent. Makes me imagine how it looked like in its 'golden age'.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Beverley,
The East Tower for sure is the showcase of the ruins of Helmsley Castle.
It looks impressive from any side.
The modern sculpture in the WS brings us better into the atmosphere of the castle during its heyday.
Best regards, Paul
