Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Last year, when we were in the Lowry, I took these moving photographs of people studying some large photographs. (There is a second photograph as a workshop.)
The photographs were part of an exhibition by the photographer Zoë Law .
The photographs feature 21 people living with cancer. Zoe was seeking to raise awareness of the cancer support charity 'Maggie’s', and highlight the support needed for people with cancer, their friends and family.
I was going to title the photographs 'Empathy' but, in stead, decided to use the title that the artist Zoe had used to name her exhibition 'LIFE'.
In the words of Zoe "This project was one if the hardest things I’ve undertaken because it was so important to me to show each person’s strength and move the focus away from their cancer. For the portraits to share how cancer does not define them, nor has it taken away their essence. The people who came to my studio taught me a great deal. Primarily that a cancer diagnosis isn’t the end but a way of looking at life differently. What the subjects of these portraits said is that cancer had given them time. Time to live in the moment, time to appreciate the everyday and time to tell friends and family how much they are loved. I called the project LIFE because the sense that came from the photographs was that cancer does not make you look at death but at the life you are living.”
Hope your Sunday is happy, Bev :-)

Good morning Bev, A very good take on Zoë Law's LIFE exhibition, with a strong arrative tension: People looking at people, experiencing their thoughts and assocations. It's interesting to compare the different body languages too.Fab! Have a very enjoyable Sunday ! Bert

Dear Bev
Every art in itself celebrates life.
People celebrate what they like.
Nice view with two interesting photos showing people getting up for an art experience.
Well done.
Warm regards

Hello Beverley, an excellent point of view that allows us to appreciate the photograph as well as the two women who are viewing the shot.
Your notes are very informative; the photographer has summed it up very succinctly, that the person suffering from cancer is still the same person! And very interesting that life takes on more meaning.
A thought provoking picture, thank you.
Kind regards,
Jean

Hello Bev,
Two photos with a strong and urgent message. The WS may be more immediately understood. The message is delivered in a more straightforward way, whereas here it's more subtle. We have to read the note and the writing on the wall to "get the picture". Each photo could have done well as a main upload. In this one I like that there are two spectators and two women on the large photo, and we get a glimpse into the other part of the gallery.
Best regards,
Gert

I guess the WS image talks more about cancer than this main post. I liked the way you used the people watching the photos creating a link between them. three of my uncles died with cancer and a cousin too and others are dealing with this.
take care

Hello Bev,
I've tried your note to understand people with cancer is a terrible disease, this is also in our country.
You chose a very well angle beside the woman to look to the portrait in background
Very nice done, nice image.
Nice done, TFS.

sounds like a moving and reflective exhibition. The body language in the four subjects is compelling. Well exposed with the limited lighting

Hello Beverley,
Another excellent museum observation with these two women looking at the large picture. I like the colours a lot and also the contrast with the B&W art. The composition is well-balanced.

Hi Beverley,
You have captured well the concentration of the women looking at the artwork. The point of view is showing the details of the picture. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.
Pierre
