Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
My New Year photograph was of the setting sun but I thought that some emphasis on our wild creatures should be a concern for the coming year.
We need to look after our planet and the habitats of those creatures that live on it.
For that reason, I am posting two photographs of squirrels. It was difficult to decide which to have as a main but this squirrel is looking us straight in the eye so how could I not chose this one!
This squirrel was collecting or hiding food in Regent's Park. I will post my second shot in a workshop.
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Bonjour, chère Bev,
Merci de nous offrir ces deux beaux écureuils civilisés et qui ne craignent pas la foule.
Chez nous, ils sont craintifs et se cachent rapidement à la vue d'un être humain.
Meilleurs voeux 2020
Amitiés.

Hello Bev
I did not even know that there were squirrels in Europe until I saw some in Warsaw and Stockholm. Previously I thought they were a North American animal. Same with bison. Europe also has bison. And woodpeckers! A good use of selective focus here with perfect sharpness on the rodent. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
There are those who hate squirrels for raiding so many birds' nests, but I find it hard to hate an animal for following its instincts. Especially when they are as cute as squirrels - or cats. You managed two very good photos, both perfectly sharp and well exposed. And this one is so nicely seated, looking straight at you, not scared but always ready to run away if you would come too close.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley,
What a lovely and charming photo of this little squirrel, which seems to be praying, maybe in the hope that we will start treating our planet better in the coming year. Well captured. Happy New Year!

Hello Beverley, an excellent close up of the grey squirrel, so sharp that we can see each individual whisker, and its' claws.
I have to ask... how low were you to achieve this point of view? In the workshop shot, we can see how well the animal is camouflaged.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

hello Bev, beautiful views of these squirrels. Are they red? In our parks we have many red squirrels, they eat from hand. Sometimes the squirrel comes to my garden. Marvellous picture.
Kind regards MAlgo

Good morning Bev, and thank you for this environmental reminder ! The second decade of the millenium will definitely have to be ecological, or else God knows what will happen to our planet !
You chose two great pictures of grey squirrels.
However, they are also victims of irresponsible humans who brought them to Europe from America, and thus they unvoluntarily decimated the population of red squirrels :-(
Thanks for sharing and let's be optimistic all the same !
Kindest regards, and a Happy New year !
Marie-Louise.

Hi Bev,
it is a controversial photo :)
I remember signs in Lake District that they are trying to help the red squirrels which are native to England. It seems the grey ones are actually formally pests which flourish here by being stronger than the red ones. As an immigrant I have nothing against the grey American squirrels but by helping them we are not helping the native squirrels which are nearly extinct.
I am glad Brexit campaigners didn't use this as an illustration to what may happen...
Having said it -in my local park there are just grey ones left so we do feed them with nuts every time we go to the park.
Today I stay with my daughter at home, the school is closed yet, so there is a chance we may go to the park to feed them.
A friend of mine from Tennessee told me that they had so many squirrels on the university campus that they hired someone with a gun to walk around and decrease the number to a more healthy level...
Happy New Year again!

Hello Bev,
Happy New Year! This squirrel is a cutie, and he seems interested in your camera. We must definitely care for the animals and have respect for their habitats. It's sad that some people don't... Getting back to your photo, I especially like this squirrel's cute, little hands. :-)
