Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
If you don't use Beta, please click on From the Height of the Walls to see the photograph much bigger and clearer.
Still at Barnard Castle but this time looking down from the protective, castle walls.
This view gives an impression of the height of the walls and how the castle could protect the bridge, which was a link into the town.
I will add a second photograph, demonstrating how it might have felt to soldiers protecting the castle.
I love to explore castles and like to feel the history and the role of such places.
Have a lovely week, Bev :-)

Hello Beverly,
this is a very nice picture with the strong bridge in the front - also with the cars to give us an idea about the wide for the traffic !

Hello Bev,
This photo is well taken and also interesting for moving us smoothly through history. Starting with the medieval wall closest to us we see the ancient bridge, the rather old ordinary buildings in the middle of the photo and finally the modern houses at the top. They all go so well together that we hardly notice the huge gap in styles. What is brought to my mind is that everything seems to have got smaller in time, while in larger cities the newest buildings are usually the biggest and tallest. ;-) No need for skyscrapers in Barnard Castle. The WS is also well composed through the narrow opening in the wall.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley,
What a beautiful old stone bridge with two arches. It is nicely seen from the castle walls, which are well included in the foreground. The contrast with the more modern houses in the backdrop is very nice and I also like the bright sunlight.

Hello beverley,
Double meaning of depth here: from the height of the old castle walls, down bellow the two arches and good extended view across the town houses towards the green slope on the far side.
Favorable light condition enable a marverlous outcome on picture, as the bridge's shadows has an imposing effect to the scene.
Have a nice new week,
Ike

Bonjour Bev
Quel beau pont.
Amicalement
Serge

Hello Beverley, an interesting view from the castle walls.
The bridge is quite narrow it would seem for today's traffic, but it is very elegant with distinctive arches.
What strikes me about the buildings is the contrast between old and modern. The old buildings have so much more character!
I like the extra shot too; it makes you wonder how they managed to defend as well as they did with such narrow openings.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Beverley, the castle ramparts protected the city in the past. The soldiers were able to anticipate attacks coming from far distance. The old bridge was a strategic location linking the castle to the town therefore it was watched and secured. It is used by the cars nowadays and new houses can be seen in the bg. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Dear Beverley,
Obviously, you chose an excellent POV for this photo, using the walls of the castle as a natural counter-point to the panorama, makes us feeling the space.
Nicely done!
Best Wishes,
Gy

Hi Bev
A window with a view, and what a view! Lovely sunshine makes the stone architecture look at its best. I like the way you captured the stones in the foreground, they make the image look so 3D!
I love the WS image too, it really makes me feel as if I were there.
Best wishes

Hello Bev,
Interesting view from the tower of the Barnard Castle. The tower was not high, the effort was not so big. Beautiful old stone bridge. The stone houses do not look old.

Hello Beverly,
Missed this one. The old stone bridge looks very ancient & I am sure it would tell some interesting stories if it could talk. A good downward pov with excellent sharpness and well timed to include some passing traffic. Tfs!

Hi Bev
Oh I knew I'd like this shot even from the small thumbnail version, and I was right. The modern cars are the 2 subjects that don't belong :) imagine replacing them in the scene with a horse and buggy haha. love the arches, love the underside being visable, love the light striking the exterior walls of the old homes. and how i'd be so happy to see the interiors too. anytime you can fill the frame with so many subjects as you have done here, its a winner
cheers
Craig
