Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
It has been one of my desires to visit the Falkirk Wheel and this year, my dream was fulfilled.
The Falkirk Wheel is an amazing piece of technology, which rotates, carrying barges from the lower part of the canal to the upper part, or vice versa.
We camped just a 10 minute walk from the wheel, so instead of approaching the wheel from the carpark, we approached it from the canal.
The approach was wonderfully dramatic! As we emerged from the tunnel, the semicircle of daylight framed the top of the wheel.
I hope you have time to see the workshops which will reveal the view as we walked closer here and here .
Enjoy your weekend, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
Excellent idea and so well executed on picture.
The big Wheel arch is perfectly within the arch which by itself beautifully reflected upon the water, and in addition, the iron railing leading the viewer towards the bridge.
Admirable outcome, we do not have such structure nor a locks system in Israel, my cong.s'.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
Ike

Hello Bev,
I wasn't aware of this unique wheel, but it looks amazing, and even just reading briefly about how it works is fascinating. It looks good from any distance, but the main photo has the advantage of the contrasts between darkness and bright light and the perfect circular frame. The three photos all have their own character and are all very well taken.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley,
A great view of Falkirk Wheel! I visited it a long time ago, but never saw it from here (I don't know why actually, maybe due to a lack of time, I think I also wanted to visit Sterling Castle on the same day). Fantastic contrast between the dark tunnel and the bright sunshine outside. Very well captured.

Hi Bev
A real good idea because all the pictures are from the other side and so we can better understand how the canal is going at the top level to the wheel. Good black frame of the tunnel responding to the circle of the wheel
Have a nice WE

Hello Beverley, a dramatic shot where you emerged from the dark of the tunnel to the bright sunlight and the structure that is the Falkirk Wheel. Our eyes are directed towards the arcs of the metalwork and then the distant hills.
An excellent way to encounter the Wheel, coming as you did along the tow path.
We visited it a few years ago, but we came to it from the visitors centre. I would love to visit it again.
I like w/s picture #2 in addition to this one, it complements it perfectly.
I am sure that tyro has posted from here before.
Kind regards
Jean.

Bonjour, chère Bev,
Le choix de retenir la photo présentant la sortie du tunnel est parfait, cela donne ce frisson que l'on doit ressentir lors du passage.
Les autres prises de vue sont également bien présentées.
Amitiés.

Hello Beverley,
Arriving through the tunnel is a bit like looking through a keyhole.
I must admit that I've never heard of this rotating boat lift connecting two canals.
It is a unique piece of technology and also a work of art.
Wonderful additional photos in the WS.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev
the close up shot of the wheel photo is an easy main post :)
especially with the magical cloud coverage to put it over the top. I really like your description..."the approach was wonderfully dramatic", that's perfect, as if you were taking of layers at a time, revealing a little bit more each time as you approached. Never seen or heard of this technology before, so unique! love it. cool main post too with all the shadows and brightness combined. cheers

Hello Bev,
Three beautiful photos with the Falkirk wheel in the lead role.
Photographed from different distances, we get a nice overview.
The main photo is the best choice with a high artistic value for the composition full of half-round shapes.
Excellent work
Have a good Sunday, groet Rob

Hello Bev,
What a nice contrast picture with the through look to the next arches.
Great perspective and depth picture.
The first part do my think, to the bunkers in Lorient in France, place for sub marine. (1943-44)but your picture are Scotland.
Your main picture as an excellent picture.
Good presentation, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hi Bev,
I have seen photos of this interesting structure but didn't realize before what it is about.
Great series of photos here with explanations which helped me to understand the concept.
Nice geometry with curves, lines and great landscape behind.
So much for me too see on this island even if the travel agencies go bankrupt and Brexit happens I have yet so much to see without leaving the country! Although I suppose Scotland may become a different country then :(
Great reportage,
M

Dear Beverley,
You used the tunnel very cleverly to frame the picture. Its a wonderful piece of engineer work as I can see from the previous picture.
Best Wishes,
Gy.
PS: Thank you for your kind words on my latest picture.
