Photographer's Note
This is an alternative view of Whitby abbey- taken from the coastal road across the harbour entrance..
In the FG is the Whitby Pavilion Complex, with the Church in front of the Abbey- I am not sure of the white building.. Most photos of the Abbey are taken from the otherside without the clutter of the FG- I just like the light just before the storm

Hi Rich,
This is a lovely picture because of the gorgeous light on the abbey and the other buildings. Just the sort of light you get as a storm is about to commence.
But, somehow, it's not quite right if you know what I mean - and that's probably why it hasn't received the acclaim it really deserves. The picture is very slightly tilted and could take about just a little under 1° of clockwise rotation - the rotation, to be fair, is more noticeable on the near building than on the abbey itself - and the slope of grassy hillside in the bottom right doesn't do the picture any favours though I can imagine that it was probably impossible to avoid. If this was taken from a car park, then you could have climbed on Casper's roof to take it - that might have helped!
So, beautiful light and excellent detail on the buildings, even at 400mm (!) but I think the bit of grass in the right foreground detracts from it.
Cheers,
John.

Hello Rich,
the long lens gives it a very special effect, all details are clearly visible and everything seems so close, yet the atmospheric perspective gives the contrary feeling. Strange and interesting.
Well done
Best wishes

Hi Rich
The abbey always makes a dramatic sight. The effect is increased by the inclusion of the surroundings, a pity there isn't just a bit more light on the abbey itself, that would have made it perfect.
