.. and from the mists came..., a photo from Cumbria, England

Photographer's Note

It had been a cold and fresh misty morning, the temperatures had not risen above the minus mark... We had lunched in the conservatory of the Linthwaite House Hotel, a lovely hotel overlooking Windermere and the Lakes. Stunning views of the surrounding hills, the ice on the trees still fast at three in the afternoon but Lake Windermere was hidden from the shroud of mist..... then suddenly through the wonderful process of temperature inversion the mists started lifting ..... and from these mists came...... Life.

This tree was the first to emerge.. more to come

Hello Richard,there is a very nice light on the trees and branches that light up the bottom of the frame,the mist also creates a pleasant atmosphere.
I`m not totally convinced about the dark area at the top of the picture or the ultra heavy frame,but I`m working on it..

Hi Richard, Beautiful shot of the tree emerging from mist and the framing given by bushes looks excellent. The dark area above i guess is because of the mountain.

Hello Richard,

The Lake District is one of my most favourite areas; there always seems to be an opportunity for a photograph, no matter what the time of year, or time of day! Of course, the skill is, in seeing the opportunitym which you have done to great effect, in this shot. There isn't much, in the way of images, but the mood, and the depth, and the contrast of sharp and blurry, is just wonderful! There is a story, slowly emerging. Well seen.

hello Richard,

except for the brown line in the frame (but that's a personal preference), I like everyhting in this shot, the tree does seem to be coming towards you like a ruler of the local lands.
hard to decide about the dark area at the top, but I think I lean towards "it is essential for the composition", I think it mirrors the darker branches in the foreground and helps to create a natural frame. the result looks great, well seen and presented.
