Photographer's Note
Inspired by Rgatward's stunning shots of Polish steam recently posted I decided to get out this shot taken at the 50th aniversary gala of the Ffestiniog Railway (North Wales) in may last year
The engine is a Darjeeling ‘B’ Class 0-4-0ST locomotive recently restored by Adrian Shooter and this was the first time it had ever been seen working outside India
Two replica Darjeeling coaches built at the Ffestiniog's Boston Lodge works made up the train.
I initially thought aboutr making this a mono shot but those vibrant blue's that shobne out even on a dull North Wales day made me leave it in colour.
One thing this engine does is pump out soot and a later shot taken from the windward side left me and others covered in black dust.

nice shot nigel, i cant help but think it would look good in B&W though and i think this would also give it a timeless feel nice shot though and good capture of another photographer in action, though i think you got the better angle!

Nice shot. Yes, the colors are quite vibrant. Good perspective also. I just think I wanted to see the top part of the smoke column. Well, I recently shot at some old locomotives also, I'll post then in a few days :-)

Hi Nigel,
Good shot especially considering the bad weather condition. You was right left the colours because of the original blue is exceptinally picturesque. I wondered seing the blue Darjeeling carriages but your note disposed all on its places. Just one thing regarding the note: as far as I know the steamers of Darjeeling were produced by Switzerland originally. Unfortunately today they run just through the short distance between Darjeeling and Batasia loop while the rest is under the service of diesel locos (you can see one of them in my TE collection). TFS.
Regards,
Denis

To Tracker and Guto:
According to the pages of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Society the featured Locomotive No 19 was built by Sharp Stewart & Co, Glasgow in 1889. And I would say that the full column is visible as the smoke blown the the right isn't really a columm. Would also say bad weather at this place is when it rains from the left to the right (horizontally).
To Cliffy:
I had cropped the photographer, the landscape right of the house and the paper or whatever is between the rails and the footpath away.

Nice picture Nigel - those vibrant blues certainly justify leaving it in colour. This train looks in fantastic condition despite its years.
