Photographer's Note
Many people believe the Scottish people are not particularly healthy: they may eat too much fatty and sugary food, be overweight, drink too much and smoke. But every now and again one meets someone who breaks this rule.
This picture was taken two days ago while I was walking with friends along part of the Clyde Walkway, a pathway which is cared for by local councils and which allows walkers and cyclists to follow the River Clyde a distance of about 65 kilometres from the City of Glasgow upstream to the World heritage village of New Lanark.
And, as we walked along, we were passed by this sprightly runner, of at least seventy years of age, lean and looking very fit for his age. I liked the autumn colours along the pathway too.
ISO 800, 1/200 sec at f/4.5, focal length 70mm.

Hi John
whats so interesting about this post is how we have these sterotypes of different peoples around the world. Sad but true right?
What do people think of Canadians? Canada is a large country, but for example out in the West Coast, Vancouverites have a reputation of being pot smoking hippie tree huggers hahaha. We are also known for being avid hikers and love exercising outdoors in the wilderness and mountains.
The reputation out east for Newfoundlanders is basically they're simple - even stupid - and dim witted, and all they know is how to fish and get drunk.
oh my...so there's Canada in a quick flash from West to East haha.
as for your photo here, I like that you captured this guy so upclose. I feel as if I'm there right behind him too, perhaps not jogging though haha
his choice of red was perfect for you, and the colours all surrounding him are perfectly autumn. beautiful array of colours! cheers

hello John, I had also similar impressions of the Scottish people. I saw so may people who were very fat, even in young age. This tendency is also in Poland but not in the same amount. But USA is not to beaten :).
Nice picture from your autumn walk. This elderly guy (my age haha) looks very fit in the jogging outfit. And after you lost weight you are also lean, fit and young in spirit :).
It seems it is still quite warm. Autumn colours are fantastic here of course.
Have a nice weekend

Hello John,
A great photo of this elderly runner, he must be a wise man taking his health seriously. The surrounding autumn colours are wonderful, it looks like a perfect day for a walk or a run in the woods. The man's bright green, yellow and red clothes add a great colour contrast too. Very well captured!

Hi John. It also happens to me to see elderly people running along the banks of the river where I am going to photograph butterflies, but most are groups of women who take advantage of it to talk. This photo is a great idea to show us who still keeps fit and to show the autumn colors in an original way.Have a nice WE and thanks,Luciano.

Hello John,
It's a timely captured snapshot of the jogging elderly man (probably even older then me). You managed excellent sharpness as he was running away from you. The autumn colours surrounding him are certainly very attractive, and although his own colours are much brighter they match the surroundings very nicely. Maybe his clothes signal that he has entered the autumn of his life. If he stays fit he may last well into his winter.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John
Great capture of this old-timer who carefully selected this morning his outfit for his daily running-hour. He obviously wanted to use the colours of the autumn forest, but he also wanted to be seen.
Great reaction to immortalize this combination.
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hello John,
All I can say, is I wish I had his physique! His hi-vis jacket and red sleeves make him stand out against the autumn foliage whilst at the same time they sort of complement it. Interesting and well realised composition that nicely blends daily life with nature.

Hello John,
I was hoping you would say that this was one of your friends and that you were following so quickly that you were about to overtake him!
I do love the colours of autumn and remember how vivid they were when we came to visit on out TE Meeting. This is a very well composed photograph, using the path as as perfect guide, the focal figure, with his colourful attire is well placed and the autumnal features make the perfect, natural frame. I love the gradually, blurring b/g which really gives a good sense of depth.
I also love the details of the runner. Oh, I can sympathise with those mud-splattered legs! They are easy to achieve detecting or geocaching!!
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello John, an excellent sharp close up of the 'jogger', right to the muddy splashes on his legs!
With the beautiful autumn colours, who wouldn't want to be out and about, running or walking?
The man's outfit stands out clearly in the thumbnails and invites us to have a closer look.
Sounds like an enterprising council!
Regards Jean.

Hello, John!
In the thumbnail I thought it was a boy running, so he is really keeping young with his exercise! Beautiful surrounding with the colorful leaves typical of autumn! Wonderful composition!

Hi John
Good opportunity, this old (my 70th birthday was the last sunday) is appreciating running in the wild, whatever is the weather (if he waits for the sunshine in Scotland, he would rest many times at home). I like his flashy gear, in acordance with the autumn mood and the mud traces on the bottom of his bare legs, the blurred right foot reinforces the idea of motion
Best regards

Hi John,
sadly although I am not that old yet I feel really out of shape. I bet this guy is in better form than I am. And I started to have some health problems. I think I have ignored for a long time the necessity of exercising.
Amazing autumnal setting with fabulous colors.
The fluorescent green shirt competes for our attention but we can spot some leaves which are nearly as bright as the shirt. So somehow it still goes together very well :)
Lovely reportage,
M
