Photographer's Note

Second in a series of three views taken from Scott Monument in Edinburgh.

This shot looks east towards Calton Hill and shows Princes Street on the left, the Waverley railway station on the right, Arthur's Seat and the Salisbury Crags in the background.

I used a wide angle on this one to exaggerate the perspective. I also waited until the sun was behind a cloud, as it was a very bright day.

When I took the shot I didn't have a adaptor to fit a graduated filter on my wide angle lens. And also as I didn't have my tripod I didn't have a hand free to hold it in front of the lens. Therefore exposure of the shot was a trade-off between correct exposure for the sky and foreground.

Post-processing involved darkenning and saturating the sky, increasing contrast in the foreground and cropping a little from top and bottom to create this slightly wider framing.
