Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Please click on Low Tide at Dunbar to see the photograph large size. The details really are much clearer.
When images are shown of Dunbar, they usually concentrate upon the harbour, where the fort, the castle and the eclectic mix of boats are obvious attractions.
I thought I would stray away from the normal and show you the sea front and the changes that occur between low and high tides.
The photographs are taken from opposing aspects but the church tower will orientate you.
This is the sea front at low tide. It is possible to walk along here, following the John Muir way, and experience excellent views as well as observe sea birds.
Although the sky looks relatively bright, the town was quite dark, under cloud so I have brightened it just a little but not enough to alter the atmosphere.
I will show a similar view, as a workshop, here showing Dunbar at high tide.
I wish you a happy week, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
There is an equally nice view on the WS, but the fascinating view of the low tide makes this photo rather special. The WS is slightly brighter and more colourful, especially the many red roofs, but the clouds are more dramatic in the main photo. Obviously I like them both, but the low tide makes this the winner anyway.
Not long ago I posted a number of photos from Cornwall, and although that is very far from this area, the atmosphere seems so similar, at least to me. I "recognize" everything, even though I have never been to Scotland.
Best wishes,
Gert

Good morning Bev, You've shown here that shying away from pictorial conventions can certainly be a good thing. The inclusion of both the well rendered cloud bank and the low tide beach adds a lot of visual and contextual interest ! I like the WS too, but it can't beat the richness of your main post. Kind regards, Bert.

The low tide, the clouds above and the town houses in similar colors, dark-brown, made a dramatic scene, Beverley.
Nonetheless, it is a clear picture with good view to the far side.
Good afternoon,

I am sure the images at high tide are more delightful for the postcards, but this image at low tide is somewhat more real and present the town for what it is.
I like how the foreground seems to mimic the cloud formation.

Dear Bev
Nice view of the harbor, with very finely accentuated house details below the interesting cloud shape.
I love the sharp details throughout the photo, the superbly composed scene.
Nice natural colors, excellent contrasts.
Visually very nice image.

hello Bev,
Despite of the quite poor light , the view is splendid , especially for the amazing sky above the coastal city and its rocky beach at low tide .

Bonjour Bev,
C'est le moment de marcher sur les berges et de profiter d'un beau point de vue sur cette ville en bord de mer. Par contre, la lumière se cache derrière des nuages épais ce qui éteint un peu les couleurs des maisons.
Amicalement

Hello Beverley, the light in this shot is so typical of British weather! Bright sunshine one minute, then a bank of cloud comes along and casts shadows across the scene.
I like this viewpoint with the church nicely placed in the composition and its' tower commanding our initial attention.
The low tide does not detract from our impression of this place.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
Well framed and composed placing the horizon lines slightly off centre. Good sharpness and the rocky seaweed encrusted shore provides an interesting fg with the cathedral at left dominating the town and adding a focal point. Tfs!

Dear Beverley,
Recently we both posting from the English country-side, which is in my opinion very charming! And of course the shores with the tides. Its amazing how the level of the sea changes. I have a photo from Portsmouth showing the same location at low and high-tide. I will show it somewhen.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Beverley, this viewpoint shows the coastline and the town. The houses are protected from the waves during storms by a wall. Rocks and green algas appear at the low tide. It looks a peaceful place. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Beverley,
A great view of the town with a wonderful sky in the background. The church at left and the many low houses make a very nice composition. Also the beach and rocks at low tide make a good foreground. Well done and exposed.

Hi Bev
a very pretty WS photo as well.
and i think i've made it very clear over the years, i'm a big fan of large cloud shots, so this is a doozy for sure. those clouds are huge but not menacing. and of course the church is the tallest building in the town - so classic right? its great how the subject fill the frame top to bottom. nice one
cheers

Hello Bev, the low and high tides always fascinate me, as there are no such phenomenons on Balticum. Spectacular composition.
Have a nice day

Hi Bev,
I would definitely identify it as British or Irish coast.
It is about the light, beach, architecture.
Great photo where you managed to capture this particular type of mood, so typical for the coast around here.
The clouds arranged themselves in a lovely pattern.
They hang over the town, not allowing the sun, even though around the sky seems clear.
As if it was a town full of sinners and they were punished by having the cloud obstructing the sunlight.
Very well seen and captured,
M
