Photographer's Note
It was a cold and grey November evening, we had gone up to the Scottish Border determined to get some shots of the amazing Geese and swans flying in to Winter in the British Isles.. I guess one learns patience and determnism when it comes to wanting good photos of the wild.. In real tyerms it was just too late, to dark and not really a great setting - with the sun not popping out amongst the clouds..
5 months lkater a look back to that eve with the wonderful excitement of seeing the swans fly in- the buzz as they fly in over the shrub to roost in the warmer wetlands..
I have done a bit of work on this one- bringing it too life.. but in reality its a bit too grainy and dark to make the photo special-- but the day was special

Amazing capture, Rich!
The timing is just perfect. Love the dark light too.
Have a great Sunday

Hi Rich, As someone that has tried many times to capture birds in flight, I reckon you did a good job here. Use of the building (what is that?) to balance the image and provide context works well. Certainly looks like threatening weather. cheers, Steve

Hi Rich,
That sounds like a wonderful time you had on the Solway coast and I can understand your frustration at not having managed to capture some very special shots. However, I really think that you have done exceptionally well here considering the poor light which you had - especially at such a long focal length.
The four birds in closely aligned formation are perfectly placed in the frame and balanced nicely by the old wooden building which looks suspiciously like a "hide" for birdwatchers. The birds stand out beautifully against the dark aky too. I really love the lighting on the ground - those patchy pools of light illuminating the coarse grassland and the little bit on fencing at bottom right.
Lovely deep colours, good contrasts and excellent details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Rich,
All colours here are very dark but they are in an excellent harmony. The four swans are providing a good line in the composition and they are balanced by the part of the fence in the other corner. The hut (for bird watching?) is also well positioned in the picture.
Kind regards
Gunnar
