at times we all feel the need to be part of the crowd, to share in the company and feel the security that it brings. after a while though individuality is lost and is consumed by the mass.
there is a greater beauty in standing apart. here a lone tree on a hill stands apart from the group that are being lost to the fog in scarva park, county down, northern ireland.

Hello Brian - In addition to a fine photograph, I love your note. The foggy sky almost devoid of features is a very good backdrop for the beautifully shaped lone tree which grows so nicely from the top of the knoll. Soft winter colours have their own subtle beauty and in this instance I cannot imagine the shot being better in any other season. Nice work. Best regards Rosemary

Sooo cold! Despite that, you've managed to keep your wits about you, and think about framing and composition. You've come up with a real cracker. Less is usually more in photography and you've given us a simple, uncluttered image which is graphic and eye-catching even though the light was flat and dull. That almost seems to add to its impact: it certainly adds to the feeling of cold! Good work. Now come in and get warm!

This goes straight into my favourites. The composition is beautifully elegant. The single tree isolated against the white fog has a lovely shape and perfectly perched on that small round hill. The row of snowy trees in the BG fills the space nicely without taking anything away from the main subject.

I can completely see why people have been enjoying this photo of yours.
Its great that the base of the tree is 1/3 from the bottom of the frame - if the tree was at the bottom it wouldn't have the same visual effect.
the dark contrasts smartly with the white/greys.

The simplicity of this image is what is striking about it. The lone tree stands so proud on the icy hill with its frosty bare branches, and I like the contrast of the softer "fluffier" trees in the background, and the overall muted colouring of the landscape adds mood.

A winter atmosphere made even more effective by the fog. By masking a possible background, the fog simplifies the shot and allows the tree, which forms are particularly harmonious, to detach. Very nice framing,

First thing I did after seeing this photo was I checked the date :)
I was wondering if it was possible to have this much snow this year already.
Excellent composition with the lone tree as opposed to the group of trees in the distance.
Great idea for the title and note to point out this contrast.
Snow makes here a beautiful decoration but what I like most is that you managed well the sky which under such conditions usually looks pretty ugly. Here in spite of being white it is OK and even enhances the difference between sharp lone tree and slightly covered with a fog group of trees behind.

Hello,
I like shots of tree in winter. Here it is close to be perfect with the fog in behind putting in evidence the graphism of the naked tree but without impacting the foreground and then the piece of frozen woods to balance the composition.
