Photographer's Note

Some years ago I was inspired by the Birmingham Frequencies multi-media project which featured work by six Midlands based artists in video and music. It propelled me to make my first visit in years to the Gas Street Basin area of the city and I am still taken with this canal-side environment today.

To get an image like this one has to get up early on a relatively windless day - I was with French photographer Sebastian Daupley who is very interested in making architectural shots - we had a great weekend walking miles across the city!

This is near Symphony Hall - so perhaps that is partly where the titl;e came from but also when I look at this I can't help but hear the earlier sounds of Birmingham frequencies in the movement of the water.
