This is Budle Bay just to the north of Bamburgh. As you can see, the channel between the sandbanks has formed the shape of a large letter S.

The golden sands stretch right along the North Northumberland Heritage Coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

On the horizon you can just make out Lindisfarne on the Holy Island. At low tide the Holy Island is accessible by a three mile long causeway. However visitors need to take care to check crossing times to ensure a safe return before the tides change.
