Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
This photographs shows some of the pretty, terraced cottages that can be found scattered around the village. I liked how these appeared to be on tiptoe peeping above the shadows cast from across the street.
When you look closely, you can see how some cottages are of a slightly different height and style, where house builders have taken advantage of using the walls of previous houses to reduce costs and fill in a space.
My workshop shows this row from a different angle, where the hood mouldings (sometimes called drip mouldings, or locally rain splashes) are very evident.
I had no need to research the dates of the main building, the date 1689 is clearly visible above the door.
Have a good day, Bev :-)

Hi Bev,
Fantastic light here, I like the darker clouds in the sky with well lit fragments of the houses. The sharpness is brilliant we can sense the uneven and dirty surface of the walls which makes them so photogenic.
The contrast level is optimal.
Excellent composition.
As I answered to your comment under my photo, I suppose I have some photographic depression these days. The nature is so empty and without the color. Also all recent weekends have rubbish weather with beautiful days during working days. It is so much harder to take interesting photos in this dark season.
This picture is quite encouraging though, I like the light, it is just that moments like this are brief and unexpected.

Hello Bev,
Two good photos of charming buildings, but I prefer the closer view and tighter crop of the main photo. The slightly unfavourable shadows are the same but are well handled with good exposures. I suppose most of these houses may be as old as the one in the WS, so it's quite exciting to imagine that this street must have looked much the same for hundreds of years.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bev
Lovely shot from a town with a quirky and very British name. Well spotted & well captured. Thanks for the WS too.

Hi Bev,
I like the play between the lighted and shadowed areas. The point of view is showing the details of the houses. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Bev
In 1689 the Dutch in Batavia (Jakarta) were still deciding whether to settle Australia. They found it more profitable to trade spices from the Moluccas. Good shadow detail with excellent sharpness and lighting which reveals the textures. Tfs!

Hi Beverley,
This alley strongly reminding me the Circus-Lane which is one beautiful street in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. So similar pattern, how typical.
Well in contrast from the shaded lower part up the sun-illuminated windows line and to the sky where we see the chimneys and antennas.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hello Beverley,
One facade clearly needs a new coat of paint.
Perhaps a creeper grew against it.
I like the shadows of buildings on the other side of the street. I think I see the shadow of a bell gable and spout gable on the facade of the house on the right.
Very charming street excellently presented.
PS: I replied to your comment on my last photo there.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,
Really fascinating old houses. There's plenty of character on those walls. And the light is excellent coming at a low angle to somewhat white walls. Darker sky is a good background.

Hello Bev,
Normally be this very difficult picture to make.
You found a perfect solution, with the old frontage to give a new life.
Composition and presentation are pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Dear Beverley,
They are really beautiful and photogenic, but I don't know if I would like to live there. They certainly lack any heat insulation and other modern features that serve sparing energy. I like the WS two, it would have been a hard choice for me as well.
Best Wishes,
Gy.
PS: The highlighted area around the fisherman is his breath, which becomes more visible due to the contre-jour. Regarding the ice, they send the oldest before them to try the ice. If he survives, the others follow. Joking apart, some 10-12 cm thick ice is safe enough to walk on it. But not for cars. Please find the following 10 year old story from Hungary here: https://carbuzz.com/news/note-to-self-hummer-s-don-t-work-well-on-ice :)

bev
interesting as they painted the walls in white to cover the stones, in portugal, spain and greece they build the walls with no texture despite they are built in the same way with stones.
take care

Hello Bev,
Nice view of these rather simple old stone houses. Charming street. I prefer this picture to the one from Workshop, nice light and shadows.

Hello Beverley, you made the right choice for main post imo.
I wonder if the ground floors of the cottages ever get sunshine? Or maybe it depends upon the season.
Some of the walls are rather grubby, in need of a coat of paint, but this adds to our overall impression of the terrace.
Certainly worth taking a shot or two, I would have done if I had been there.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Beverly,
I agree with your choice for the main entry. I like the shadow of these houses' neighbors.
