Photographer's Note

Thurne Dyke Windpump is a restored windpump on the River Thurne in the Norfolk Broads. The Broads are a network of rivers, channels and lakes. 120 miles are navigable and the area is a very popular tourist destination with many pleasure boats and pretty villages. The Broads are the result of flooding of very old peat workings. The Norfolk Broads once had many windpumps that were installed for pumping water. Although many of the original windpumps are derelict some have been restored such as this one.
