Photographer's Note

Meet Jo. His is 23 years young but sadly has been living on the streets since mid 2016. A relationship break-up left him without a roof over his head, and try as he might he has been unable to secure accommodation by way of social housing or private renting (current rent prices are way too much for him to afford) or by any other way. So he sleeps rough on the streets.

He is not a drug addict per-se: he has never used hard drugs like smack or crack or meth or fentanyl.... but he got hooked on Spice, the synthetic marijuana that is killing people left, right and centre, although he has tried to stop using it and says he hasn't for ages.

He is a really bright chap - we spent over 40 minutes chatting on the first time I met him, and another half an hour this time - I needed a friend and he was there for me. Oh the juxtaposition...

Sadly he doesn't seem as good as he was the first time I met him. I guess life on the streets is hard and it is taking it's toll on him.

I will be back to visit him again soon, and take him a parcel of food and clothes. He is a nice guy - like so many on the streets - and I really feel for him.

Life can be such a struggle at times for so many: I often wonder how on earth people in this position manage to survive, when so much is stacked against them.
