Beachy Head

Another photo from the coastline in the south of England, only a couple of miles from the town of Eastbourne, which I showed in my previous post. It is the chalk headland, called Beachy Head, which is the highest chalk cliff in Britain with a height of 162m/531ft. At the base of the cliff, the Beachy Head Lighthouse was constructed between 1900 and 1902. The lighthouse was needed, because the lighthouse on top of a nearby headland could sometimes be hidden in mist and low clouds. Beachy Head was the venue for the 1994 Quidditch World Cup in the film adaption of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It also starred in two James Bond movies and the 2010 film adaption of Graham Greene’s novel Brighton Rock.
