Photographer's Note

And now for something completely different!

A change from landscapes, parades and artwork I thought that I would share this picture from Paignton zoo of these giraffes.
Giraffes are one of my favourites with their beautiful markings.

The world's tallest animals at 5m (16-18ft), their legs alone are taller than many humans.
These long legs allow them to run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances, and cruise comfortably at 10 mph over longer distances.

They use their height to good advantage and browse on leaves and buds in treetops that few other animals can reach. Their tongue is approx. 51/52 cms (21 inches) long. They eat most of the time, and like cows, regurgitate their food and chew it as cud.

They live primarily in savanna areas in sub- Saharan regions of Africa.

Just like humans, giraffes have 7 neck vertebrae, but for giraffes however, each one can be over 25.4 cms (10inches) long!

Thanks for looking.
