Photographer's Note

The Newlyn Fisherman Memorial.

Situated on the edge of Newlyn Green, on the outskirts of Penzance, Cornwall.

This life size bronze casting was made by the artist Tom Leaper.
The memorial was built to honour dead fishermen, with over 20 local men having died fishing since 1980.
Money was raised to pay for the statue locally.

About Tom Leaper:- "Born in Newlyn into a family of studio potters, Tom Leaper developed his own artistic style while working in the pottery before going on to study sculpture."

"Over the years I've become a skilled metal worker, using sheet bronze, stainless steel and copper as well as solid casting in bronze and iron."

The first time that we saw this statue, (I can't quite remember the year,) it was the day before Princess Anne was going to come and unveil it, and the red carpet had been laid down in preparation!
