Photographer's Note

Some time ago, I have show you 2 pictures of the Gruyeres Castle (Le Château de Gruyères and La Gruyère et son château). these picture had been taken in end of winter, so the colour was a little bit pale.
Today you can see a picture taken from a small aircraft. The castle seems to be isolated in the landscape. I have deliberately search this angle to see it alone. The town is on the right.
The name of Gruyeres comes probably from the crane heraldic. The origin of the family are not known actually. From the 11th to the 16th century, 19 counts has reigned. The count Michel was the last one. He was in bankrupt, and the Castle and the land was pick up by the town of Fribourg and Berne. In 1849 the castle was sold to private. The Fribourg State bought it in 1938 to make a museum.
