Photographer's Note
haven't been here a lot lately, but life is just to busy ....rnI hava always enjoyed to observe nature in all its wonders all over the world. Lately my focus has shifted to bird watching, a pastime one can indulge in on every trip around the world. But why go far when the good is so near? I spotted this common Kingfisher just 3km from my home on the banks of the Birs River near Basel, Switzerland. It seems to be a resident there as I could observe it on several occasions already. rnHaving bought myself a decent spotter scope and a good pair of binoculars, I can now spend hours on end in the woods, on lakeside, in the mountains or even just in my back garden and observe the local birdlife with great joy.

Salut Daniel.

Hello Daniel,
Superb capture of this charming little kingfisher, its bright feathers stand out so well from the grey background. Very good sharpness too.

Hello Daniel,
Please don't apologise for being away from TE for so long - I was away for almost a year - because TE is time consuming and we all have busy lives too!
I am pleased that you are now reaping the joys of bird watching. I have only once seen a kingfisher "in the flesh" and have never managed to photograph one - so it's so wonderful that you managed to capture this one! As Luciano says, it's not perfect but it's jolly good and a photograph with which I would certainly be pleased!
Lovely!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Daniel
good to hear you've found yourself a new hobby! Keep it going, i'm sure you'll get some great shots as time goes by. there were some subjects in your way here in the fg, but the Kingfisher is still easily observed, especially its pointed beak.
PS
for Iceland in the summer, i was surprised how it wasn't as busy as suspected. Yes it was busy - of course - but not CRAZY busy.
cheers
Craig

This would be the largest Kingfisher and most colorful, Daniel.
Every year there is a nice family of them topping the roofs of our neighborhood, singing loudly almost every morning with their unique twits.
See this guy here.
Best regards,
Ike
