Photographer's Note

To change a little of my aircrafts shots, view of a Cougar of the Swiss Air Force in flight.

The Super Puma (Eurocopter AS-532) is a French Medium-lift military or civil transport helicopter. It's one of the world's most versatile helicopter. No less than a dozen versions of the nine to eleven tons (19842 to 24251lb) helicopter are meanwhile available. The military variants, which are designated Cougar since 1990, are operational with 37 forces while approximately 100 civil Cougars are flying in the off-shore service for 14 companies. It can transport up to 29 passengers. The cabin also suits a minimum of six stretchers for the transport of injured.

Due to this versatility Eurocopter has managed to sell more than 500 Super Pumas/Cougars, in spite of serious competition from the smaller UH-60 Black Hawk. The Super Puma is in the same class of the US Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, US Sikorsky S-92, and the futur European NH-90 (jointly designed and produced by Netherlands, Italy, Germany, and France).

Besides the huge means deployed by the Americans, the Super Puma is currently used a lot to aid the victims of the tsunami in Asia. It is perfectly adapted for this kind of mission.
