Photographer's Note

The Bee: Figuration of the soul. The bee fulfills an initiatory and liturgical role. It is one of the major attributes of the Artémis goddess, and its virgin priestesses are called "melissai" (bee). Symbol of resurrection, one finds it illustrated on the tombs as a post-funeral sign of survival. The season when it seems to disappear - the three winter months- is brought closer to the three days during which Christ dead is invisible, right before ressusciter. Among Celts, who drank hydromel, or in the Welsh traditions, the bee evokes the concepts of wisdom and immortality of the heart.

"Rien ne ressemble à une âme comme une abeille,
elle va de fleur en fleur comme une âme d'étoile en étoile,
et elle rapporte le miel comme l'âme rapporte la lumière"
(Victor Hugo, Quatre-Vingt-Treize)
