Photographer's Note
A view over Lake Thun (Thunersee) and Interlaken to the right from the nostalgic train up to Schynige Platte in the beautiful Bernese Oberland in Switzerland
About this photo: Last summer (July 2008) we went for a trip to Europe and spent about 12 days in the area Interlaken in Switzerland. We bought one of those Bernese Oberland passes for 7 days which gives you access to all trains, buses, boats, gondola's and such. With this pass we could travel for free on 3 days and the rest of the days were 50% off.
The first three days we were there it was raining and very cloudy. We were getting a little down as the rain didn't seem to want to stop. But then after 3 days the we had sunshine and blue skies. The first sunny day we (and it seems like everybody else and their dog) went to Jungfraujoch and on the second sunny day we went up to Schynige Platte (elevation: 1967m/6491ft). This was much more pleasant and not too busy. We took a ride on the nostalgic Schynige Platte train which climbs 1420m (4686ft) over a distance of 7.3km (4.5mi) on its journey from Wilderswil up to Schynige Platte.
It was a fun ride with so many beautiful views along the way and then I am not talking about the views you get from the top! I especially liked the sound of all the cow bells as we drove by. I made a small video of that, for those who would like to see it can CLICK HERE!. It's a not great filming, but at least you get an idea!

Some information about Schynige Platte: The Schynige Platte Railway or Schynige Platte Bahn is a mountain railway in the Bernese Oberland area of Switzerland, which connects the town of Wilderswil, near Interlaken with the famous wildflower gardens of the Schynige Platte.
An impressively varied natural landscape unfolds on your journey: fertile forests, Alpine pastures and breathtaking views of the Bernese Oberland with Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Then a sudden change of scenery to the almost overwhelming view of the glistening giants of the Bernese Oberland, directly opposite, the imposing peaks of the Eiger (3,970m / 13,025 ft), Mönch (4,107m / 13,474 feet)and the Jungfrau (4,158m / 13,642 ft).
The Schynige Platte is a Swiss mountain region near where the Schynige Platte Railway ends (at 1970m/6,811 ft above sea level. In good weather conditions the summit offers spectacular views to many surrounding mountains, including Jungfrau, Eiger, Silberhorn and others, as well as Lake Thun (Thunersee) and Lake Brienz (Brienzersee). An Alpine Garden (Alpen Garten) is located near the summit where various alpine plants can be found together with labels, indicating their Latin names (many of these plants also grow in the area as wildflowers). At the top of the railway station there is a hotel and mountain restaurant.
Schynige Platte is a start point for many hikes, especially the popular hiking trials to Faulhorn or First.

Hoi Ann,
Groetjes,
Henk

A good scenic capture again, Ann. Lots of delightful details to be found in this fine deep view from Switzerland, starting with the foreground details and opening up all the way to the lake and the surrounding ranges. Vivid natural colors and good lighting.

Hi Ann,
Looks like a gorgeous place to visit. Your depth is so extensive that unfortunately the distant scenes are somewhat obscure. The rollin hills in the foreground shown as farms with livestock are telling of the good life in the hills. TFs. Gerald

Hi Ann, I vaguely remember this particular scenery when travelling in Switzerland in 2007, but nothing I took compares to this excellent photo. Between yourself and PexelTerror, I am being transported back to this beautiful country every night! TFS, Lisa.

Hi Ann,
The point of view leads our eyes toward the valley, the lake and the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The mountains are framing well the lake. The picture is clear and sharp. The quality of the light is engancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.
Pierre
