Photographer's Note

A poppy field at Annetorp in the outskirts of Malmö. Yesterday it was the Midsummer Eve, a national holiday and one of the most popular festival days in Sweden. Today we celebrate midsummer on the Friday and Saturday between the 20th and 26th of June. Midsummer is an old pagan celebration associated with fertility in hope to bring a good harvest at the end of the summer, but at the same time even a christian holiday to commemorate John the Baptist.
The poppy flowers are closely associated with the Midsummer and are one of the flowers picked to make a garland with summer flowers which is worn by people during the celebrations.
