Photographer's Note

Among the most Swedish things there is are the archipelago boats in Stockholm. Most known as "Vaxholmsbåtarna" (The Vaxholm boats) they go around to the most remote places in the archipelago with passengers and goods. Of course the holiday season is a boost in traffic and the timetabel in the summer is a lot differnet from the one in the winter. Some of the boats can handle reasonably thick ice an work through most of the winter.

Vaxholm, or in older spelling Waxholm, is a small town in the inner archipelago and the hub in this traffic. Some of the routes go all the way into central Stockholm where they have a terminal opposite the royal castle.

This picture is taken at a maintenance place just around the corner from the terminal in Stockholm city. Some of the boats where just being brushed up to meet the summer people when I passed by in May. Waxholm I was just getting some rust spots covered with white paint buy this guy enjoying the spring wheather as he works.

The Waxholm I and her sisterships are the biggest in the fleet and also the ugliest. The front might look ok seen like this when the undersized foredeck is cropped. The sides of the ship are just vertical corrugated metal with no concern for looks.
