Photographer's Note

Going up the magnificent staircase of Casa Batllo, we come across the view of the window of the small gift shop that sells, among other things, beautiful ceramic objects but with exorbitant prices ..
Casa Batlló is a renowned building located in the heart of Barcelona and is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. Casa Batlló is a remodel of a previously built house. It was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. Casa Batlló evokes the creativity and playfulness of Gaudí’s work through the incracite facades and creative floors. Gaudí's assistants Domènec Sugrañes i Gras, Josep Canaleta y Joan Rubió also contributed to the renovation project.
The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It was originally designed for a middle-class family and situated in a prosperous district of Barcelona.
The building looks very remarkable — like everything Gaudí designed, only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, is rather astonishing with tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work.
It seems that the goal of the designer was to avoid straight lines completely. Much of the façade is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadís) that starts in shades of golden orange moving into greenish blues. The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí's home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon.

Salendo la magnifica scala interna della Casa Batllò,ci si imbatte nella vista sulla finestra del piccolo negozio di souvenir che vende,tra l'altro,stupendi oggetti in ceramica ma con prezzi esorbitanti.....
La Casa Batlló è un'opera del celebre architetto catalano Antoni Gaudí che sorge a Barcellona, in Spagna, al civico 43 del Passeig de Gràcia.
Considerata una delle opere più originali del celebre architetto, l'edificio è stato dichiarato, nel 2005, patrimonio dell'umanità dell'UNESCO.
Nel 1904 Josep Batlló, altolocato industriale del settore tessile, affidò a Gaudí l'incarico di rimettere a nuovo un modesto palazzo acquistato l'anno precedente sul Passeig de Gràcia, l'arteria principale del quartiere modernista dell’Eixample, zona eletta dalla borghesia catalana dell'epoca quale sede dei propri spettacolari palazzi. La costruzione originale era uno spazio molto stretto e allungato e dalla forma rettangolare, che rappresentava sicuramente una sfida per l'architetto catalano.
Il lavoro di Gaudí, completato nel 1907, modificò notevolmente l'aspetto dell'edificio, rivoluzionando la facciata principale, ampliando il cortile centrale ed elevando due piani inesistenti nella costruzione originale. Al piano terreno sorgevano le scuderie, destinate successivamente a magazzini, e l'androne comune. Il primo piano del palazzo, il cosiddetto piano nobile, fu destinato ad abitazione della famiglia Batlló mentre negli altri quattro piani furono ricavati otto appartamenti destinati all'affitto.
La facciata anteriore Il disegno della facciata principale cancellò ogni traccia del precedente progetto mantenendo però la originaria disposizione delle finestre.
Nella parte bassa della facciata, in pietra arenaria scolpita in forme sinuose, Gaudí concepì dei corpi aggettanti di aspetto zoomorfo e fantastico (motivi ossei), evidentemente ripresi dall'art nouveau e in un certo senso anche dal gotico (si pensi ai corpi pensili delle cattedrali gotiche).

This is a fabulous image with a graphic feel to it. The beautiful tiles of various depths of blue color form a lovely framing for the unusually shaped window with warm golden-brown colors of the wooden frame and the lighting inside the room. Well done on spotting this scene, it makes such a cool photo. I wonder if the girl has ever noticed how brilliant her image looks as she sits in the centre of this excellent building that appears to have been designed just to frame her! The inside of the building looks very warm and wooden too, a nice contrast to the cold colours of the exterior tilework.

Certo che Gaudì, personaggio strano e anticonformista ci ha lasciato un patrimonio artistico molto vasto per forme e colori fuori dalla norma ma ammetto che ha un certo fascino ed attrae la curiosità. Questa tua foto ne è una chiara dimostrazione. Le piastrelle azzurre e celesti di certo non siamo abbinano alla spettacolare finestra piena di dettagli nitidissimi ma di sicuro creanoun forte impatto ottico. Ottimo lavoro Luciano. Vedo una bella armonia tra queste piastrelle blu delicatamente illuminate dalla luce calda e la tonalità naturale e morbida dell'interno. Che fortuna che questa donna è seduta davanti alla finestra! La nitidezza sembra un po' troppo forzata col PP, mostra sui bordi di ogni piastrella.

Caro Luciano

Una foto che adoro. Sono una fan delle ceramiche, e non potrei volere di piú da una foto. I colori e grafismo sono incandescente e tre-dimensionale. Mi piace molto il taglio stretto ed il contrasto tra il legno della finestrina ed i toni cobalti ed azzurri delle ceramiche. É una meraviglia quest'apartamente,ed il modo in cui l'hai scatto é straordinario. 10 e lode!

The blue tiles are an overwhelming sight upon, and the issue is about the girl inside: Really a unique place spotted, looks a whole different place than the outside's, with contrast in colors and texture.

Awesome! This is a bonus, we get a picture-within-a-picture here. :) Brilliant composition and exquisite exposure. Blue is my favorite color, so this was an obvious selection to comment on...not to mention, it's simply beautiful! It's no wonder you've received so many compliments on this one, what a really fascinating and well planned photo. The color combination is so very harmonious and the patterns and shapes are certainly an eye-catcher. Strong graphic effect of the blue tiles which surrounds the beautiful window. The girl being there as we see through the glass is a nice addition, but IMHO not something which adds a lot to this otherwise beautiful picture. Rather it is the warm-cool colour contrast which is so very attractive. Lovely work!

Technically, it's outstanding! I can appreciate all the minute well-exposed details on both sides of window and I can't tell if it's because you're a Photoshop expert or if the depiction was as is!!
