This picture of an Egyptian temple was taken during my trip to Madrid.

A temple rescued from the water ( 27Amon_%%% 28Debod 29)

Under President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt embarked in 1954 in the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The lake waters are generated and then engulf the valley of Upper Nile from Aswan to the Dal Cataract in Sudan. This region known since antiquity as the Nubia contains significant archaeological treasures including many ancient temples. Also in 1959, the governments of Egypt and Sudan to seek help UNESCO to save these sites1.

A broad international campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia is then engaged. Many sites are dismantled to be rebuilt elsewhere whose temple Debod in 19602.

Spain participating in this large international company, Egypt, to thank her, offered him in 1968, the temple of Debod. Similarly, the Netherlands receive one of Tafa, the United States of America, one of Dendur and Italy, that of Ellesiya3.
