Slaughterhouse Madrid is a set of 48 buildings dedicated to perform functions of slaughterhouse and cattle market. Currently, due to the revitalization of the industrial heritage of Madrid promoted by the City, has become a cultural space dedicated to the Arts and temporary exhibitions. The slaughterhouse is located along the Walk of poplar in the district of Arganzuela in the south of Madrid, on the banks of the Manzanares River. The formerly named: Dehesa de Arganzuela. This is a plot of twelve acres of floor area with several warehouses and buildings of architecture typical of the architecture neomudejar industrial transition from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It was built in the early twentieth century in an unpopulated area of Madrid in response to the growing population of Madrid and as a replacement of the old House-slaughterhouse Puerta de Toledo.

The architect for the design of the municipal slaughterhouse under order of the City of Madrid was Luis Bellido and Gonzalez, and was responsible for its construction engineer José Eugenio Ribera between 1911 and 1925. It was in operation as a slaughterhouse nearly six decades until it was finally closed in 1996. There were few significant changes in its facilities despite being designed from its inception as an open project, while the environment has changed significantly during this period of time. All functions were transferred to the slaughterhouse Mercamadrid. In 1997 included in the catalog listed building General Urban Plan of Madrid. It was abandoned some of its facilities for nearly three decades. The slaughterhouse is, upon conversion began in 2007, the permanent headquarters of the ARCO Foundation (March 2003) and the Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND) and the National Ballet of Spain (located in the stables of cattle) . The Clock House is the headquarters of the Municipal District of Arganzuela. Just as you have the Crystal Palace of the Arganzuela (livestock barn) as a set of four greenhouses that reproduce the climate of the tropics and subtropics.
