This fine Gothic temple is the cathedral of Toledo.

The city of Toledo (the ancient Roman city of Toletum) was the most important Castilian city during the Middle Ages; it was an strategical place situated wright in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, surrounded by the river Tagus and protected by dangerous cliffs. However, it was a refined cultural center as well, and most of the Arabian science books of that time were traslated to European languages in this historical city. It is importat to emphasize that, by that time, Islam was the most advanced civilazation in the world, so the work developed in Toledo was extremely important for the Western World in its fight for surviving.

It was as well a very cosmopolitan city, so Chritians (from all over the world), Muslims and Jewish lived together peacefully for more than eight centuries, with absolute freedom of religion. Due to this, the cultural and artist heritage of Toledo is amanzingly rich, having wondeful buildings of that age in almost every street of the centre as well as fine cathedrals, important sinagoges, beautiful churches, great palaces with its coat of arms, artistit museums (Greco paintings), old libraries, and a long long long list of artistic manufactures (Swords and armours are renowned), for instance, all the ones from 'the Lord of the Rings' were produced in this magnificent place.
