Photographer's Note
The Roman bridge which, according to the Arab geographer, Al-drisi 'surpasses all other bridges in beauty and solidity', reflects little of its Roman roots, owing to frequent reconstruction over many decades. In the centre of the eastern side's stone handrails there is a little shrine to St Raphael, at whose feet the devout burn candles.
It is, of course, unlikely that much of the original structure stands. The present structure is a medieval reconstruction, though the 19th-century cobbled paving does give a Roman feel. There is an irregular pattern to the 16 arches in size and abutment protections.
There are good views of bridge and the river from south bank. There is usually ample parking Avenida Fray Albino. Visitors from the south may well consider parking here and walking over the Roman Bridge passing Bridge Gate and entering the old town at the back of the Mosque.

Bonjour, cher Daniel,
Un cadrage judicieux pour valoriser cet ensemble architectural et ce pont enjambant le fleuve. Un bien joli effet d'ombre et de lumière.
Amitiés.

Hello Daniel,
You have chosen an excellent viewpoint which has enabled you to reveal the details of the bridge, the figures crossing it and an irresistible link to the interesting buildings at the far side.
I immediately felt that this was Roman though your notes suggest there are few remnants of the original bridge.
Perhaps it is the statues and arches and pillars that immediately furnish this sense of age!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Daniel,
Beautiful weather for late December.
I was there once at the same time of the year and it was raining cats and dogs.
Beautiful view of the square and the buildings near the waterfront with the old bridge pillars in the foreground.
Excellent perspective and sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Daniel,
Then old constructions are always the most beautiful and also the most strong.
With a concrete balk is the bridge again good for hundred year.
You took a nice panorama picture with depth and perspective.
Excellent sharp and nice of colour.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hi Daniel
Strolling through this ancient bridge is a throwback in time! An impressive structure, your POV is especially well chosen leading us round to the other interest in the backdrop. You managed the harsh light quite well there. Nicely done capture
Best regards

A fine perspective , from the bridge in the shade in the FG , towards the beautiful buildings in the light in the BG .
Well done .

Hi Daniel,
Base of the bridge is truly massive. No wonder it has stood there for so many centuries. Also those background buildings look classic, though probably not so ancient. The statue on top of a tall pole catches my attention too.
