Photographer's Note
Winter is coming in Julian Alps. Hiking at about 2.000 m altitude on already snowy south-east slopes of Mt. Jalovec the mood is still calm. Chilly, but no wind. However, at higher altitudes the situation must be radically different. Very fast and cold west winds must dance there creating these wonderful wave clouds. The picture changes rapidly from moment to moment. An incredible sky ballet announcing a strong, cold weather front bringing us more snow. What a pleasure to witness nature forces on move! What a day was given to me again!
Scanned by Nikon CoolScann ED-IV. Color temperature shifted slightly to warm (red + yellow) but preserving some blue tint. Mountains masked-off (Magic Wand tool and manual correction) and the sky blurred 2 pix radius at 4.000 pix picture width. Mask inverted and extended for 5 pix to include the horizon. Resampled to 800 pix width. Mountains manipulated by Curves to increase contrast slightly. Some dogging and burning here and there. Sharpened by Unsharp mask level 70, 1 pix radius. JPEG level 30 (Corel PhotoPaint notation).

WOW, what an incredible landscape you captured! Yes, the clouds seem to be dancing and thus look incredible set amidst the mountains in the foreground. The sharpness is amazing here as is your composition. Simply beautiful!

Spectacular mountains and a wonderful sky. The contrast between the clouds and the peaks is most effective. Your notes are particularly informative.

Your notes are very informative. It is a pity that I shall never see an image like this in real life.

The clouds do it for me. Tried to find something that would make this shot even better, but i just had to give up.

Wonderful shot Amadej! If you play around with the Channel mixer for a B&W conversion you can really make this one jump out in a different way (especially those wonderful clouds). I tried 122/-18/22 red/green/blue mix in monochrome mode which worked pretty well.

Excellent shot expert post processing as ever Amadej. Whilst I like this one very much I would like it even better if there was somewhere for the eye to rest, some focal point, foreground interest or similar.

What a photo! Spectacular Sky with spectacular mountains. Indeed I think that Angled parts of a photo, like mountains here, deal very well with rounded parts like clouds here

Excellent composition of the assembly line with this ballet of clouds. The orientation of the light gives a pretty relief. The wind was blowing very extremely in high altitude.

Snow fraiche on the mountains and the weak light it is very beautiful, the composition is very good with its clouds of wind which follow a little the relief. The color is interesting.

You've done an excellent job using a filter to set up the original shot and then PS or Corel to carefully emphasize each portion of the image perfectly without any of the oversharpening or excess coloring that often results from correcting an image.

The mountains are incredible, especially when you read your comments about how calm it is lower down vs the harsher conditions up high.
But the clouds are simply stunning. I'm fast learning that a lot of photography is about capturing moments and being in the right place, at the right time with a camera in your hand. And you've done just that. Breathtaking!

Hi Amadej,
I specially like this wonderful landscape.
The soft waves in the sky are contrasting with the hard texture and shape of the mountains.
This is partly the good result of your post-processing, which works effectively.
This is also the result of the polarizer which greatly highlights the sky's colors.
Congratulations !
Amicalement,
Michaël

One of the best photos I've seen in a long time.
Excellently captured!
It is amazing how rugged terrain is greated with smooth flowing clouds. One of the wonders of Nature and how it greets us. I just love nature, just how it can inspire us for that moment.
Real magic.
Thank you Amadej!
