Photographer's Note
The Skocjan Caves or Skocjanske jame are a slovenian cave system approx. 20 kms east of Trieste, Italy.
The system with 6 km length and a height difference of 205 m is too difficult to describe it here.
Martelova dvorana, its biggest hall, is 308 m long, 123 m wide and up to 146 m high, but is not a part of the 105 min visiting tour.
This here is Sumeca jama where Cerkvenik Bridge crosses Reka river in a height of 45 m.
Some say that the nearby Postojna Caves are the caves of heaven, while Skocjan Caves are the caves of the devil.
Taken on slide film with Canon A1, professionally digitalized.

Hello Sven,
The colours really bring the scene to life and create the perfect, illuminated b/g against which to portray the silhouetted figures.
Have these caves been used by early man?
I have just heard that archaeologists have discovered the world's oldest known animal cave painting in Indonesia - a wild pig - believed to be drawn 45,500 years ago.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
