Photographer's Note
Postojna Cave.
Postojna Cave (Slovene: Postojnska jama is a 24,340 m long karst cave system near Postojna, southwestern Slovenia. It is the second-longest cave system in the country (following the Migovec System)as well as one of its top tourism sites. The caves were created by the Pivka River.
Natural environment.
The caves are also home to the endemic olm, the largest troglodytic amphibian in the world. The tour through the caves includes an aquarium with some olms in it. On January 30, 2016, a female olm at the cave began to lay over 50 eggs. This rare event led to global news about Postojna Cave and the olm. From the end of May to mid-July 2016, twenty-two baby olms successfully hatched. Karst topography refers to a plateau in southwestern Slovenia and northeastern Italy, which gave the name to karst topography.
Postojna Cave was carved by the Pivka River over millions of years. There are stalagmites, stalactites, and formations called curtains or draperies that look like folded curtains.
The cave system is 24.12 kilometers (14.99 mi) long and is made up of four caves interconnected through the same underground river. However, according to speleology rules, the passages and siphons connecting the caves must be walked or swum through by man for them to be considered one whole. Connecting two of the main cave systems will make this the longest cave system in Slovenia and one of the longest in all of Europe. There remain 400 meters (1,300 ft) between the two caves, which would make the cave system between 31,000 meters (102,000 ft) and 35,000 meters (115,000 ft) long.

Hi Danos
You have shown the amazing geological formations within the limited space of the cave from the best viewpoint and available light source giving us the ides of
scale as well. A picture with tremendous detail all round, shadows, textures and rich warm tone, i think you're really making the most of the opportunities there which is adequately exposed with excellent result. Thanks to your useful narratives, Splendid shot. Congrats.
Warm regards

Hello Danos,
I saw these caves 48 years ago! I remember my visit quite well although I don't recognize every detail. The shapes of these formations are amazing and you have captured them with admirable light and sharpness. It's a fascinating view. Among the things I remember are the small blind olms, which I also found fascinating.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Danos,
Awesome curtain of stone so well presented on low light. I have visited these caves about 20 years ago. There was no way I could take decent pictures with a camera I had those days.

Bonour Danos,
J'ai toujours été très impressionné par ces sculptures naturelles et souterraines.Cela prend une très bonne gestion de la lumière pour faire aussi bien ressortir les détails.
Amicalement

Hello Danos,
This is fascinating!
The water erosion makes the most spectacular caves and then they are enhanced by the growth of stalagmites and stalactites.
Your photograph shows a natural sculpture that is just amazing; it is a very 3D in its appearance!
I have never heard of olms before.
I will go and research the subject.
Thanks for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hi Danos
Sorry I missed you in Kefalonia but as we know the weather was atrocious. No problem like that inside this cave though. Amazing repetition of the naturally occurring patterns and shapes formed by the calcite deposits. Tfs!
