Photographer's Note
"Oh, Serbia among the plums" - slightly distorted verse from Oscar Davičo's poem "Serbia", (Oh, Serbia among songs, among plums), which has often been used lately due to the successful and concise expression of the attitude of Serbs towards mother Serbia.
Here, and in WS, are two photos of plum trees among the cottages of Ethno Village Bogut, located in Bogutovac, near Kraljevo. This small farm is nested between a mountain river and typical Serbian countryside landscape.
In terms of the area it occupies, Serbia is the largest producer of plums in the world, and in absolute terms of 700,000 tons, it is the third. Today, there are about 42 million trees in Serbia, and apart from orchards, it can be found almost everywhere: near houses, by the roadside, in the yard..., even in parks. Most of it is processed into šljivovica (šljiva = plum) - a national brandy, but Serbia is also known for prunes and plum jams. One of the specialties of Serbian cuisine are sweet dumplings with plums.
