excellent portrait. you have captured so much fine detail. Your framing is perfect too. i do hope that someone will buy her some flowers or better still, giver her lots and lots of money for a small bunch of her flowers.

Hi Veronica. I was just quickly going through my TE favourites for later comment when this image stopped me in my tracks. It is taken with your usual extraordinary talent for bringing out the joy, sadness and in this image, a kind of resigned desperation, in the faces of your subjects. I don't know if I could have taken this picture without feeling that I was preying upon someone else's bad fortune, yet without such images many of us would remain ignorant of the true facts of life. That we can still have this kind of poverty in Europe astounds me even though I know there are similar cases even in the rich UK. Romania is a recently joined member of the European Community and I hope that their sharing some of the wealth of the richer members will soon make such scenes a matter of history. I wonder what has brought this poor woman to such a state with the ravages of time plainly visible and eyes that most certainly are in need of medical attention. Has she no family to look after her in her failing years? Were they taken from her in the bad years? After decades of dictatorial communism surely she she deserves a better life in her old age. That I comment little on the technical aspects of the image and instead concentrate on the emotions it invokes in me, is in itself proof of its perfection. This picture goes into my favourites as a reminder for when I feel hard done by, of how much better off I am than many others.

Hi Veronica,

A most incisive portrait bespeaking your talents as a photographer. You've composed the subject beautifully, centering her eye on the vertical bisector. Her face is accentuated by the black of her clothes and the darkness of the background. Here you may have little control, but if the face could be slightly turned, that might be the only improvement. It is a fabulous shot, in any case.

Wow Veronica. This is a powerful portrait. The moisture under her eyes give the impression of deep despair...Along with the slightly ragged looking close, the lines in her face speak of a hard life...I wonder what stories she could tell, if she wanted to share the fading memories.
