Photographer's Note

National College "Ion Bratianu" prestigious educational institution in the county of Arges, was founded on 6 September 1866, when the course opened in Pitesti "the first secondary class", comprising 12 students and one teacher, Nicolae Micescu, fresh graduate of the Faculty of Sciences in Bucharest, which was to teach all subjects. Establishment of Pitesti gymnasium came to meet "several requests and insistence of the citizens" in addition to City Hall, making the necessary arrangements and obtain approval of the Ministry of Cults and Public Education. Between 1867 and 1871, the school works with the first three classes, with a small number of students and the school year 1871-1872, when established and grade IV, gymnasium reinforcing situation, the Ministry calling for the first time professors recruited through competition on public Education Act of 1864.
